As a Team Lead at Gearset, you will:
Work with the other team leads, product managers, and all the engineers at Gearset to ensure we’re building and delivering the right products in the right way.
Line manage, nurture, and grow your own software team of up to 6 people, working with them to achieve their own development goals
Spend half of your time managing the team, and the other half getting your hands dirty creating great software alongside them
Prevent the build up of silos by ensuring your team is working not only with each other and the rest of engineering, but also marketing, product, sales, customer success, and of course our users
Balance product development vs necessary technical improvements to help ensure we’re improving the product for our users, and making sure it scales into the future
Become familiar with a pragmatically-chosen tech stack, including a mix of technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, React, and C#
Work closely with users, delighting them with support, researching new features and soliciting feedback
Contribute opinions on a range of topics, from development practices to product strategy and roadmap
To help you get up to speed as smoothly as possible, you would join Gearset as a senior developer working in another team for a few months to ease you into things before taking on Team Lead duties.
You’ll be a good fit if you:
Have experience of leading teams and projects, and deeply care about making sure you’re working together to solve the right problems and delivering early
Can lead from experience by having been a first class software engineer yourself
Can step back and reassess the approaches and goals of your and your team’s work to ensure we’re always on the right path
Have a bias towards action and pragmatism
Enjoy mentoring, sharing knowledge, and developing the skills of less experienced developers
Enjoy working with a collaborative team of varied disciplines, including software developers, designers, marketers and salespeople
Have an enthusiasm for working directly with users to build and deliver the right features
Nice to haves:
Experience working on a hosted product
Experience working in an agile development team, following software engineering best practices

You’ll work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, splitting your time flexibly between home and our Cambridge office (typically 2-3 days per week)
Salary is £65k – 85k, depending on experience
