Senior Communications Manager

2-3 Months (37 Hours, 5 Days a Week)

London (Hybrid – 3 days in Office)

My high-profile client is looking for a Senior Communications Manager to play a leading role in protecting and enhancing their corporate reputation in the media and on social media, showcasing improvements on our network, promoting the positive role we play in the communities we serve and managing our reactive press office.

Responsibilities:

Leading the media response on issues which have an impact on our corporate reputation, ensuring that the business’s reputation is both protected and enhanced.
Driving positive coverage in national and local print and broadcast media as well as rail industry media and other verticals
Working with colleagues across the business to identify good news stories and plan and deliver multi-channel campaigns to improve the client’s reputation
Providing strategic counsel to senior executives on key media issues affecting the client and preparing them for print and broadcast interviews
Managing and developing a team of three communications professionals
Leading the press office’s reactive media relations during and out of office hours. This could include anything from an incident at a station which has been picked up by the media to a major operating incident causing delays to trains
Coordinating the incident communications response, by reviewing and keeping processes up to date and overseeing a programme of media training
Working with the customer information team to provide service information to customers both before and during disruption via a variety of channels.
Being on call (roughly 1 week in 7) to provide a reactive service to journalists
Liaison with internal communications, marketing and stakeholder teams to ensure consistent and timely messaging.
Building strong relationships with a network of media contacts
Enhancing our social footprint through innovative use of content
Representing us in engagements with industry and national stakeholders
Any other duties, as reasonably requested.

Requirements:

Educated to a degree standard or equivalent
Extensive experience of working in a busy press office, journalism or PR agency
Planning and managing multiple projects to tight deadlines
Working effectively under pressure
Excellent reputation management skill and an awareness of key audiences
Strong news sense and good judgement
First-class communication and presentation skills
Experience and ability to build excellent relationships with internal/ external contacts at all levels
Experience advising senior colleagues
Experience managing and developing teams
Working independently and in a team
Commercial understanding and customer focus
An understanding of the railway and how regulated industries operate is helpful, but not essentialCandidates will ideally show evidence of the above in their CV in order to be considered.
