An exciting opportunity has arisen for two ambitious, proactive and creative individuals to join our dynamic Press & PR team.
Reporting to the Press & PR Director/Manager and working alongside experienced journalists and PR/communications experts, your role will be to identify, produce and edit news stories and features for our various news and media outlets.
This includes generating ideas, stories and features for our monthly Chamberlink magazine and ChamberlinkDaily digital news bulletin, as well as contributing to our digital and social media activity.
The role(s) includes significant interaction with all departments of the Chamber – including the executive team – in order to generate positive media coverage for the organisation and its 2,500 member companies.
The successful candidate(s) will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as being able to demonstrate attention to detail, enthusiasm and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Previous full-time employment or work experience within a news desk, press office, agency or media outlet is advantageous. Attendance at Chamber events across Greater Birmingham will be necessary as part of the role, including occasional early morning and evening events, with time in lieu offered for additional hours worked. Therefore, a flexible and adaptable attitude is essential.
Key responsibilities will include:
Writing and editing stories and features for print and online publications
Work closely with all departments to identify and generate news stories for the Chamber and its members
Undertake reporting assignments at Chamber events and briefings
Distribute press releases and handling requests from local and national media
Contributing to the Chamber s extensive digital activity (including social media, podcasting and video)
Suitability qualified – National Council for the Training of Journalists diploma or journalism degree (or equivalent experience)
Strong news and feature writing skills
Keen interest and understanding of news and current affairs
Ability to work at a fast pace and to tight deadlines
Ability to develop and maintain key contacts and close working relationships
Proficient IT skills
A professional, proactive and adaptable approach
The ideal candidate will have a passion for print and digital media. Good knowledge and understanding of social media, podcasting and video production would also be advantageous.
