A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent. We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Situated within the Activism and Advocacy Directorate, and working closely with other teams both within CPC and across the organisation, the Research team works to develop and deliver innovative, effective and impactful research that ensures that Shelter is at the forefront of thought leadership and helps us to understand the housing emergency and uncover evidence of how people are being affected by it and how to campaign to end it.

We will count on you to establish and implement a vision for the team s cross-organisational work, which is well communicated to the team and across Shelter, while also striving to develop innovative ways to approach research problems in order to implement strategy both nationally and in communities.
You will create a supportive and aspirational culture and ensure effective and efficient ways of working where the team are motivated to deliver high quality work, while also focusing on the development and management of the Research Team s budget and monitoring organisational research spend, ensuring research which provides value for money. At a senior management level, contributing to the development of the wider CPC directorate and to Shelter s campaigning priorities and approaches are also vital elements of this key role.
Influential, creative and collaborative, you will have impressive experience of leading the development and delivery of research, ideally in a similar organisation, including a proven record of feeding research into media comms and/or making tangible change at the publication of research. You also will be able to demonstrate first rate research management skills and experience of a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods. A natural communicator, both verbal and written, you will have strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, while a flexible, professional and proactive approach to your work is also vital.
