The Role

The Export Sales Manager role is primarily responsible for developing a strong global network of Merlin partners be they distributors, dealer direct or through on-line specialists. The CAGR globally for this industry is +7% through to 2030 as new emerging sectors are being established and it is the intention of Merlin to be positioned strongly in the right parts of the World to benefit from the growth opportunities both the current and emerging opportunities present.

Over time this role will establish a network of regional managers and or agents, to present Merlin to potential customers in those regions and to work with and formalise distribution agreements and market development plans. In other areas, specific Countries of independent significance are likely to be led by Country Managers or MD’s and the role of the Export Manager will be in the first instance to begin shaping out and executing toward this plan.

There will be a number of ‘key’ International shows that Merlin ought to be present at and it will be for the Export Manager to work with the board at identifying these and being the key point of contact around show activity, building meeting plans and readying for customer presentations.

The past 5 years has been very strong growth [Internationally] for Merlin and in every market where we are present consumer growth has exceeded expectation ~ so in essence we need to win many more markets.

Key Deliverables

To shape quickly the long-term market reach structure; and to begin recruiting regional agents in these global regions to support the plans of the Export Manager. Alongside this to identify and focus the action plan around potential given the various markets, their direction of travel, our competitive assets and from this decide ‘what first, what next’

Growth. Growth in the scale of the global network, Growth in the revenue from the Export channel, Growth in the quality of the distribution partners Merlin works with.

The right candidate will be a blend of ‘strategist’, ‘operator’, ‘salesman’ and ‘friend’. This is an industry where ‘relationships count’ and so the successful are fortunate to have this blend and enjoy moving between these attributes. The right candidate will have in the internal desire and capacity to build a global brand by building gold standard partners and to be comfortable with the features being the leader in this role means.
