I Love MCR was adversely affected when its primary revenue streams – hospitality, leisure and tourism – completely closed during the Covid pandemic. After admirably weathering the proverbial storm and helping to reboot the local economy, the inspiring city brand is rebuilding its digital team with great ambition.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and dynamic editor/journalist to join the core team at I Love MCR. We are looking for someone who is driven by breaking news and inspiring stories, but also a real people person who is passionate about all things Manchester and who can bring perpetual positivity to the role.

Your new role
I Love MCR is on the hunt for a new editor or experienced journalist. A skilled investigative writer to help maintain, reinforce, repurpose and grow organic traffic to the brand’s positive news website, whilst also copywriting and delivering the editorial (advertorial) interests of our partners.
I Love MCR is a source of joy. The editor will be the voice of the website, and ultimately be responsible for the final editorial product the company publishes.
You will be expected to adhere to and broadcast our brand values, championing Manchester and reacting with a positive outlook, as well as:
Writing, editing and publishing editorial on our website
Ability to recognise trending / popular news topics
Meeting daily targets (e.g. at least three original stories per day)
- Copywriting to briefs and also relied upon to find angles –
Approval processes with clients
Keeping on top of cornerstone content to make sure it’s up to date
Organising and managing media such as photos and videos
Organising and managing a busy email inbox
Collaborating with accounts and social media departments
Basic understanding of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is very useful but not absolutely essential
Basic understanding of Google Analytics is useful but not essential
Basic understanding of Google G-Suite administration such as shared folders (Google Drive), documents, spreadsheets and calendar
An eye for aesthetics and photography is very useful but not essential
Excellent presentation and communication skills
The ability to work autonomously
Above-average marketing and advertising knowledge
Excellent people skills and a strong team player
This role will require someone who can make executive decisions and represent the brand at all times. Someone who is willing to put the brand before any personal gain. Someone who isn t afraid to bastardise or reject an article press release submitted for publication because it falls below our quality threshold.
Someone who will attend launch events, and network with the utmost professionalism. Someone who doesn t just see this as a 9-5 job. Someone who loves Manchester passionately.

Salary negotiable (dependent on experience).
