In this role, you’ll manage your tickets to ensure timely delivery of your priorities, troubleshooting problems before getting out into the Data Centre to fix the troublesome hardware – all before a customer ever notices there’s a problem. You will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. As a global organisation, Microsoft have many different customer types to provide their many services to – they call these ‘Business areas’. In your role you will be located within the Cloud Operations and Innovation centre. This is everything to do with looking after and maintaining data centres, and innovating through tech – for example becoming Carbon Neutral and sustainable.

You will work as part of a team to…

  • Schedule and prioritise tickets to efficiently fix problems according to business need
  • Solve problems – troubleshooting to ascertain the issue with the hardware –
  • Replace or fix broken hardware as and when required to solve the problem
  • Spend the majority of your time out in the Data Centre, actively fixing Microsoft hardware
  • Shadow more Senior Data Centre Technicians to learn technical knowledge
  • Understand Microsoft processes to ensure maximum efficiency

To be successful in this role you need….

You will study for a Level 3 ICT qualification over this 18 month apprenticeship. You will spend 80% of your time learning on the job, and 20% working towards your apprenticeship. Microsoft want all of their apprentices to achieve their full potential. After your Level 3 apprenticeship they’ll work with you to find the best next step. That might be a permanent role, or a chance to progress to a degree level apprenticeship. Progression isn’t guaranteed, but Microsoft offers a world of opportunities for high performers.

Microsoft operate in a Hybrid Working environment. In simple terms, this means your working life can be split between home and your contracted place of work. As an apprentice you and your manager are empowered to find the flexible balance that works for you. Trips to your contracted place of work will be required from time to time.
