Are you a website editor looking for a change? Do you have skills that are currently being under-used and feel the time is right to branch out and take on a bright new challenge?

About us

Part of the Royal College of Nursing group, RCNi aspires to bring UK and international nurses the best journals, websites, awards, events, and innovative digital products to help with every aspect of their nursing career and practice.

Our gateway website www.rcni.com went live in March 2015 and, following a successful launch, we were named the Digital Brand of the Year 2015 at the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) digital awards. In 2016 we launched ten websites for personal subscribers under the RCNi.com platform, in addition to our ten websites for institutional subscribers. We also launched the RCNi Portfolio, helping nurses with revalidation, and RCNi Learning, our range of RCN accredited online interactive training modules. In 2017 we upgraded all our content platforms, and launched the Nursing Standard podcast, the first news podcast designed specifically for nurses. In 2018 we launched the Nursing Standard app for subscribers, and introduced personalised content and longform storytelling, as well as celebrating our annual Nurse Awards event by welcoming Game of Thrones star and RCN ambassador Emilia Clarke to give a keynote speech to attendees.

Plans to enhance existing digital offers to subscribers and to introduce exciting new ways to assist our hard-working nursing workforce continue at pace. This is an excellent time to join the company and be part of our digital future.

The role

The structure of the digital department at RCNi consists of two web editors reporting to the Head of Digital Publishing.

This job role at RCNi entails supporting the Head of Digital Publishing in every aspect of our digital world as we grow in prominence. We currently use two different platforms to merge and manage content via XML feeds and manual page creation. A keen eye for detail is imperative as you will be checking, investigating, and fixing XML and HTML code errors as well as publishing content.

The web editor role is very much at the heart of our company as you will be working with every department – editorial, production, product development, marketing, and sales – to ensure each department is represented in the best possible way for our online readers.

About you

You will be competent, confident, and friendly, willing to work in a team as well as shine as an individual. Digital project manager experience would be a bonus and creativity would be a plus, especially when identifying new ways to improve our online content. You will know coding and understand the difference between HTML and XML. You will also have experience of using analytics and SEO for reporting and to make sure the most valuable content is where the reader expects to find it. It would be a benefit if you have experience of working with UGC, whether in a moderated environment or an open forum. You will have IA and UX knowledge and know how to appraise a website for navigation and consistency. You will be competent in Photoshop and / or other creative editing software, and have a visual flair with colour and layout. Although this isn’t primarily a writing role, you will have good command of the written word and know how to make online communications clear and friendly within our brand style.

The perks

RCNi is an expanding company with an enviable and proud record of developing its staff. You will enjoy excellent terms and conditions, including a generous annual leave entitlement, and be based at our Harrow office. This is next to Harrow-on-the-Hill tube station, which is 12 minutes from Marylebone via Chiltern Railways and 20 minutes from Baker Street using the Metropolitan line.

Join us

We have great plans for RCNi. Take this brilliant opportunity to join us and be part of our exciting vision.
