How To Answer: “What Can You Bring To This Role?”

Are you stumped on how to answer the dreaded interview question “What can you bring to this role?” Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. But with a little preparation, you can knock this question out of the park.

Do your research

First things first, it’s important to do your research on the company and the specific role you’re applying for. Take a look at the company’s website and social media pages to get a sense of their mission and values. Look at the job description and requirements for the role you’re applying for, and make sure you understand the responsibilities and expectations. This will give you a better understanding of the skills and qualifications they are looking for, and will allow you to tailor your answer to show how your skills and experiences align with those needs.

Connect your answer to past roles

When answering the question, it’s also a good idea to highlight any relevant accomplishments or successes you’ve had in your past roles. This will show the interviewer that you’re not just talking the talk, but you’ve also walked the walk. For example, if the role you’re applying for is in sales, you can mention a specific instance when you exceeded your sales goals or brought in a large account. If the role is in customer service, you can mention a time when you received positive feedback from a customer for going above and beyond to help them.

What is your USP?

In addition to your past experiences, don’t be afraid to showcase your unique skills and qualities that sets you apart from other candidates. For example, if you’re a strong problem-solver, mention a specific instance when you were able to come up with a creative solution to a difficult challenge. If you’re a great communicator, give an example of how you were able to effectively lead a team to success. These examples not only demonstrate your abilities but also showcase your problem-solving and leadership skills.

Another important aspect is to highlight your willingness to learn and grow in the role. Express your eagerness to take on new challenges and to continuously develop your skills. This will show the interviewer that you are a proactive and ambitious individual who is committed to personal and professional growth.

Show you’re passionate about the role and company

Finally, don’t forget to express your enthusiasm and passion for the company and the industry. Employers want to hire individuals who are excited about the opportunity and will bring energy and dedication to the role. It can be as simple as explaining why you are excited about this opportunity and how it aligns with your career goals.

By highlighting your relevant skills, experiences, achievements, willingness to learn and grow and enthusiasm, you’ll be able to show the interviewer that you’re the perfect fit for the role. So go out there and knock that interview out of the park! Remember, the more prepared you are, the more confident you’ll feel, and the more likely you’ll be to land the job.

In addition to my technical skills, I am also a strong problem-solver and have experience in leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
