How To Target Passive Candidates

When you’re advertising a job vacancy, the normal routes are putting together a job advert, posting it on a board (like Bubble Jobs!) and hoping for the best, right?

Well, while this might work most of the time, sometimes the perfect candidate may not be actively looking for a role and you have to dig a little deeper to fill the position.

That’s where passive candidates come in. While these are trickier to target and harder to encourage to apply for your position, they are potentially more relevant candidates who would require less training – and could be open to a new role if the right job came around!

But how can you find and attract these sorts of candidates? Well, here at Bubble Jobs we believe that the key to locating these candidates is finding out where they “hang out” online and taking the role to them – among other tips and tricks!

With that in mind, here are a few ways you can do just that:


Go Social

One of the best ways to target passive candidates is to find out which social platforms professionals in that particular industry use to engage with each other and target them via those channels.

Engaging with potential candidates via Communities or Groups on platforms like LinkedIn and Google+ could unearth some really talented people and could help you to build relationships with influencers in the industry who are well-connected.

Top Tip: Be sure not to spam these groups by just posting links to your job advertisements with no effort put in on your part. Try to take part in discussions prior to advertising your job to build some credibility and trust.

Use Employees As Brand Ambassadors

Sometimes the best way to attract candidates to your role is good old-fashioned word of mouth, and getting your employees to spread the word is a great way to get your vacancy out there.

What’s more, people will trust the opinion of an employee at a business, especially if their promotion of the vacancy isn’t forced and appears to be a natural endorsement of the company.

Consider implementing some sort of referral scheme that rewards employees who recommend friends or family for the role who then go on to be hired. This is doubly beneficial as – not only does it open up your reach – but it also keeps employees happy with potential bonuses.
