How To Have A Productive January Job Search

January can be a time where you feel the most motivated to make some all important changes in your life and for some this means a time for a new job. If this is the case, follow these helpful tips to help make the most out of your January job search.

Set time apart from the usual day-to-day

If you are currently employed it can be difficult to motivate yourself after a long day at work to search for a new job. But by creating a plan of action for the January month, you can start to manage your time more efficiently. Allocate yourself dedicated time to focus on creating/updating your CV, the job search process and applying for a role. As these stages can be time-consuming be generous with the amount of time you predict it will take you to complete. Good organisational skills will prevent you from putting off your job search or leaving it for another day. Because when you have a plan in front of you, you have no excuses but to complete it (hopefully!)

New year, new CV!

It’s time for a complete CV revamp and when is a more perfect time to do this than in the new year? You can try updating the key sections including; employment history, key skills and your opening bio. If you think this is up to scratch try a new format or get someone else to have a look over it because they might notice something you didn’t.

Be proactive

Be proactive in your job search. If you are interested in working somewhere but that company is not currently hiring, try reaching out to them anyway – what have you got to lose? Send them an email introducing yourself and explain why you want to work there and it could work in your favour. This is because it showcases a genuine interest, initiative and a proactive approach. Even if they have nothing available currently, you may be the first person they think of when a new position arises, depending on how much you made an impression!

Stay motivated

New year, new me! Feeling motivated in the first week of January is easy but remaining motivated for the whole month or even the year is more challenging. So to stay motivated try setting yourself goals for the new year and this will hopefully keep you motivated as you aim to achieve them. It also helps you to stick to a routine, so when you wake up in the morning you feel motivated and ready for the day.

Start the year right

If you have a productive January it can help set the tone for the rest of the year. Therefore if you choose to follow through with the goals you set at the start of the month it may encourage you to continue with them until the end of the year or even when you complete them!

So here’s wishing you a happy productive new year and a successful January job hunt!
