How To Choose The Right Recruiter For Your Job Search

By Lauren @BubbleJobs

When you embark on your job search, you may get to the point where you’ll want to start speaking to recruiters, and it’s important that you choose the right recruitment company for you.

Remember, the recruiter will be representing you and will be a key part of helping you climb the career ladder.

So, how do you know which recruiters are better than others and which will be the most appropriate for your job hunt? Well, there are a lot of factors to take into account when it comes to choosing which recruiter to work with, and luckily for you all, we’ve laid these out in this blog!

1) Consider A Niche Recruiter

When looking at recruitment companies, it might be a good idea to choose a recruiter that specialises in your niche. This way they’ll be more knowledgeable about the industry and will understand the job you want so will be able to find the most suitable role for you.

Also, they’ll have a good understanding of the industry so will know how to get you the best possible package in your job.

2) Check Out Their Job Postings

Another important thing to look out for when choosing a recruiter is how good their job postings are. You want to pick a recruiter that takes pride in their job ads as it means they will take pride in the work they do for you as a whole.

Poorly formatted adverts with bad grammar, spelling mistakes and typos are big no-nos and should set the warning bells off, but slick, straight-to-the-point, attractive adverts are a sign of a good recruiter.

3) Check The Level Of The Jobs Advertised

So, they recruit in your niche and post blooper-free adverts, but that still doesn’t mean they’ll be the right recruiter for you!

Have a look at the level of jobs they advertise – if it’s mainly manager/senior roles and you’re a graduate seeking your first full-time job, it’s probably not the right recruitment company for you.

4) Check The Locations Of The Jobs

Similarly to my last point, you need to make sure that you check that the jobs posted on the recruiter’s site are within a commutable distance from where you live.

It’s no use signing on with a recruitment agency that recruit 100 miles away from you exclusively as it’s going to be very unlikely that they’ll be able to find a role for you – unless you’re willing to relocate!

5) Scrutinise Their Websites

If a recruitment agency claims to recruit in your niche, then they must know everything about your industry, right? Well, not necessarily – you still need to check!

Go onto their website and check out their use of the industry jargon and abbreviations to make sure it’s right and that they fully understand your niche. Remember: a recruiter that is clued-up about your industry will be able to help you find your perfect job!

So there we go, some tips on choosing the right recruiter for your job search!
