Create The Perfect UI Designer CV

When it comes to successfully bagging a new UI designer job, there are a few things employers always look for from candidates. First up, they want someone who has a strong understanding of technical and workflow considerations, has a solid background in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science and/or Computer Science and has previous commercial UI and UX experience. Next up, you'll need to be proficient in programs and tools including Omnigraffle, Visio, Photoshop and Illustrator and, depending on the role, you may also need to have experience designing interfaces for native mobile applications.

When reviewing UI designer CVs, employers also want to see that candidates are proficient in things like HTML and CSS, have a good working knowledge of things like JavaScript and After Effects and have experience with wireframes, user journeys and user flows. Last but not least, to really be successful in this type of role, you'll also need to be a natural problem-solver and have a good understanding of best UX practice.

Usability CV Top Tips

You need to make sure you've got a couple of things on your CV before you go sending any usability job applications in. First up, you'll need to have strong commercial experience in user testing and user-centred design (wireframes, flowcharts etc) and you'll need to know things like user experience design and information architecture like the back of your hand. You'll also need to have a strong university degree (preferably in something like Human Computer Interaction, Ergonomics or Psychology), extensive testing experience and a good working knowledge of relevant software like Axure and Omnigraffle.

When it comes to successful usability careers, strong analytical skills are essential, as are great team management skills and a proven track record of creating actionable insights from user and usability testing. Last but not least, having things like great team work skills, experience defining user journeys and experience with user research and profiling will definitely help to win you extra brownie points when applying for usability jobs.

Front End Developer CVs: The Essentials

When it comes to your front end developer CV, knowledge of languages like PHP, ASP, HTML and a good understanding of CSS (CSS3) is essential, as is a great eye for detail and an impressive portfolio. When applying for front end jobs, you'll also need to demonstrate you've got knowledge of things like jQuery and JavaScript, knowledge of accessible build techniques, web standards and coding semantics and a good working knowledge of things like PhotoShop and InDesign. Other things that might help to win you extra brownie points include experience with JavaScript MVC frameworks, Google Apps and APIs and a knowledge of things like Python and Django.

In addition to all that technical stuff, when it comes to front end development careers, you also need to be able to multi-task, work to tight deadlines and be a great team player. Last but not least, you'll also need to have patience and be able to keep calm in a crisis and have strong communication skills.

To catch an employer's eye, you'll also need to ensure you've got things like experience of working with Agile methodologies, strong PhotoShop skills and a strong portfolio demonstrating experience with wireframe designs, responsive design and interaction design on your user experience designer CV.

Things like having agency-side experience in a UX role, experience producing sitemaps and card sorts and competitor reviews can help to catch a potential employer's eye, as can experience with usability and emotional testing and strong communication skills.
