Create The Perfect UI Designer CV
When it comes to successfully bagging a new UI designer job, there are a few things employers always look for from candidates. First up, they want someone who has a strong understanding of technical and workflow considerations, has a solid background in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science and/or Computer Science and has previous commercial UI and UX experience. Next up, you'll need to be proficient in programs and tools including Omnigraffle, Visio, Photoshop and Illustrator and, depending on the role, you may also need to have experience designing interfaces for native mobile applications.
Usability CV Top Tips
You need to make sure you've got a couple of things on your CV before you go sending any usability job applications in. First up, you'll need to have strong commercial experience in user testing and user-centred design (wireframes, flowcharts etc) and you'll need to know things like user experience design and information architecture like the back of your hand. You'll also need to have a strong university degree (preferably in something like Human Computer Interaction, Ergonomics or Psychology), extensive testing experience and a good working knowledge of relevant software like Axure and Omnigraffle.
When it comes to successful usability careers, strong analytical skills are essential, as are great team management skills and a proven track record of creating actionable insights from user and usability testing. Last but not least, having things like great team work skills, experience defining user journeys and experience with user research and profiling will definitely help to win you extra brownie points when applying for usability jobs.
Front End Developer CVs: The Essentials
In addition to all that technical stuff, when it comes to front end development careers, you also need to be able to multi-task, work to tight deadlines and be a great team player. Last but not least, you'll also need to have patience and be able to keep calm in a crisis and have strong communication skills.
Create The Perfect User Experience CV
First up, the CV essentials when applying for user experience jobs: advanced knowledge of UX best practice, good working knowledge of things like HTML5 and CSS3, a related degree (preferably in a subject like Interaction Design, Cognitive Science or HCI) and expert knowledge of workflow, interaction and UI. To catch an employer's eye, you'll also need to ensure you've got things like experience of working with Agile methodologies, strong PhotoShop skills and a strong portfolio demonstrating experience with wireframe designs, responsive design and interaction design on your user experience designer CV.
Things like having agency-side experience in a UX role, experience producing sitemaps and card sorts and competitor reviews can help to catch a potential employer's eye, as can experience with usability and emotional testing and strong communication skills. Last but not least, to secure a long-lasting UX career, you'll need to have a great eye for detail, be able to work in a team and have design experience across all browsers and platforms.
