seo jobs iconSEO CV Essentials

Just like any other job advertised on Bubble, there are definitely a few CV essentials when it comes to applying for SEO manager jobs. The first thing? Well you need to not just know what SEO is but how it works in a commercial setting - this means experience is essential. You need to be able to show you've got a passion for SEO, you know what things like metadescriptions, H2s and page titles are and how they can be used to further SEO efforts and you understand how SEO can work alongside other search engine marketing techniques like PPC, affiliate marketing and display advertising.

As an established SEO pro, you'll need to demonstrate you've got a good working knowledge of essential tools like Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools on your CV - and you'll also need to demonstrate you're familiar with things like HTML, CSS and Java. Although SEO sits very much in its own niche, the lines between it and social and content/copywriting are becoming more and more blurred - so to secure a successful SEO career, you need to show you understand the relationship between all three and how they can work together to provide a great user experience. Last but not least, experience with things like PPC (Google Adwords), blogging and UX can also help you to stand out from the crowd when applying for SEO manager jobs.

PPC CV Essentials

Like the sound of a PPC career? That's great but there are a few things you're going to need to consider before you start sending applications off. Firstly, you need to think about whether you want to work in-house for a client or for a digital agency. Both have their pros and cons so at the end of the day, it really just comes down to your personal preferences. You also need to think about whether you want to take on a pure PPC role or you want to take on a more generic SEM job (which can also involve SEO).

Whatever you decide, there are a few things you'll definitely need to make sure you have on your PPC CV. First off, Google Adwords certification is a must, as is commercial PPC experience and a good working knowledge of the wider digital marketing landscape. You'll also need to have great analytical skills, have good attention to detail and have strong communication skills. Depending on the role, you may also need to be GAP qualified, have a degree in Maths, Business, Science (or a related discipline) and have strong Excel skills. Last but not least, you'll need to be self-motivated, results-driven and have a strong passion for digital.

When it comes to paid search jobs, you'll also need to have strong Excel skills, have a good working knowledge of Display, Retargeting and Affiliates and have great people management skills. Last but not least, SEM can be an extremely challenging industry so you'll need to ensure you're dedicated, highly motivated and target-driven if you're hoping to have a long-lasting, successful search marketing career.
