It might sound obvious but you need to have a good understanding of how the online advertising industry works if you're applying for online advertising jobs. You'll need to know all about things like display advertising, ad trafficking and digital ad-operations. And you'll also need to have experience of managing large budgets, executing online ad campaigns from start to finish and negotiating the best deals - depending on the role, you may also need business development experience too.
Just like more traditional advertising, the online advertising industry is extremely cut-throat and competitive - after all, everyone wants the best deal and ad placement for their client - so it goes without saying that dedication and a love of the industry are key. When it comes down to your online advertising CV, you'll also need to have client management experience, analytics and reporting experience and background knowledge of the related industry. Employers also want to hear from candidates that have display ad and campaign management experience and have experience of devising and implementing display advertising strategies. You'll also need to be competent with ad serving platforms and inventory planning and have optimisation experience and a good knowledge of the online toolset - things like media buying, tracking systems and RTB and their applications.
Alongside all that, if you want a successful display advertising career, you'll also need to have experience in collating and analysing data and you'll also be an expert when it comes to things like XML, data feeds, widgets and databases. Last but not least, for this role you'll also need to have great 'people' skills, be extremely organised and have a real passion for all things eCommerce.

When applying for Traffick Manager jobs, employers tend to want to hear from candidates who are educated to a degree level, have strong Excel skills and have experience uploading media to large ad serving tools and platforms like DFA, Atlas, MediaMind, Doubleclick and MediaPlex.
