Digital Content Editor

£28,624 - £30,056

Bristol

Job Ref: 852

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to join the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) as Digital Content Editor. Based in the Council`s Communications team, this role will be responsible for planning, sourcing and producing high quality digital content for the HEFCE website.

HEFCE is responsible for distributing nearly £4 billion a year for teaching and research in universities and colleges and is the lead regulator for higher education in England. Our mission is to create and sustain the conditions for a world-leading higher education system.

The post holder will play an active role planning and developing content across the HEFCE site, tailored to the Council`s different aims and audiences. This will mean creating web pages, blog posts, news stories, short films, and infographics. The digital content editor will also help to improve and optimise content for search.

The job will involve:

  • Good understanding of, and passion for, all things digital
  • Ability to use digital channels to articulate sometimes complex areas of public policy
  • Planning, sourcing and editing content for the HEFCE site
  • Using the Council`s CMS to manage content workflows and structures
  • Working closely with a wide range of internal and external contributors to the site
  • Using analytics and feedback from user-research to inform site changes
  • Publishing to editorial standards (house style, tone of voice)
  • Planning and editing visual content - infographics, charts, short films, interactive visualisations
  • Basic knowledge of underlying technologies (e.g. HTML and CSS)
  • Aligning digital communications to wider communications aims and campaigns
  • Maintaining a positive user experience across the site

HEFCE is also undergoing changes as an organisation, which may affect the way it carries out key areas of communications activity. Following the notion of `content design`, the post will play a significant part in developing a more `user-centred` and strategic approach to digital content in that time.
