How To Make The Most Of YouTube…!

By Anna @BubbleJobs

As I’m sat here wondering how to start todays musings on online video, the only thing that comes into my head is that annoying, Gangnam Style phenomenon.  Proof that the power of online video is absolutely massive. Since the K-pop South Korean musician, PSY’s video went global, he’s been centre stage at Times Square on New Year’s Eve as he reigned in 2013 and he’s even watched notable political leaders Obama and Cameron attempt his not-so-slick dance moves!

Now, on another note, it’s no secret that here in Bubble HQ that we’re starting to see a steady increase in the number of Video production roles coming on to our site and as the boom in online TV continues to grow, I thought I’d take this timely opportunity to look into YouTube as a highly lucrative strategy for any business.

Now I’ll hold my hands up and tell you that today’s blog is just as much for your benefit as it is for mine.  Here in the lovely village of Tarporley, the Bubble team recently launched its own YouTube channel and as the Social Media Exec, I decided it was time to make the most of the video sharing platform!

So without further ado, here are a few hints and tips to help us both get started on our journeys to becoming a viral video superstars!

1. ACCOUNT

First thing’s first, when you set up your YouTube account, try to find a name that reflects what you’re all about. If you’re setting up a business account, try and secure the name of your company as the username. The URL for your YouTube account will look like… [youtube.com/profilename]. So if you get your brand in there, users will find you when they search for your brand. Upload a recognisable avatar (logo), as well as a link back to your website and pack your description with keywords explaining what your business is about.  You might also want to consider branding the background of your YouTube channel in ensuring consistency with your website and social networks….

2. OPTIMISING VIDEO CONTENT

When it comes to picking out a title for you soon-to-be viral vid, come up with something short and snappy that explains to users what your content is about, don’t fall into the oh so common mistake of simply using your business name!  In your video description, build on your title – create intrigue so that users want to watch your content!  Another top tip involves including a link in the description back to your website to capitalise on traffic.

3. THE SOCIAL PART

This is where your savvy social skills come in.  You need to embrace the YouTube community and make some virtual friends.  Find friends by searching keywords that relate to your industry, subscribe to their profiles, watch and comment on their content.   Search for users in your locality – establish online connections and before you know it, you’ll be meeting them offline and establishing real life rapport with your contacts!
