Warning! Best Online CV Ever!

By Amy @BubbleJobs

Here at Bubble we see a lot of CVs… and when I say a lot, I mean A LOT! Yep, to be honest we thought we’d seen it all… until this week.

Yep, earlier this week something caught my eye on Twitter and I’m glad it did because it turned out to be the best online CV I’ve ever seen. Now, you probably know what I’m talking about but if not, here it is.

Impressive stuff eh?! OK, so Phillipe Dubost is probably massively infringing on about a million of Amazon’s copyright rules but who cares? He’s managed to create an engaging, exciting, unique, clever and extremely cool CV that plays on his key strengths and experience. From the “Only 1 left in stock – order soon” tagline to the “Add to Wedding Registry” button, this guy’s thought of everything and in doing so has managed to gain attention from the likes of mahoosive organisations like Mashable – pretty cool, right?!

CV

If we’re being honest, I think Phillipe’s good looks and charming smile have probably helped on the attention-side of things but there’s no denying this site and man is extremely clever. He’s managed to get all the key information on the site and has styled it out to sell himself as a product – which, if you think about it, is really what a CV is all about. Employers are looking for a certain candidate/product – it’s up to you to prove you have the skills and experience needed to fill their candidate/product requirements.

Now, Phillipe’s not using the site in place of a LinkedIn profile (you can see he’s got a link to his profile on the site) – he’s using it as an additional platform to show off his skills and leverage his online profile – and that’s really the name of the game when it comes to digital careers. These days it’s not enough to have great experience, qualifications and skills – employers want mooooore! They want proof you can think ‘outside the box’ and can use your initiative to play on your key strengths.

Think about it; if an employer’s looking for someone who can create innovative, engaging and exciting web product content strategies and plans, are they going to want to interview someone who has a standard booorrrinnngg, straight-laced LinkedIn profile or someone who’s gone to a bit of extra effort to create something amazing like Phillipe?!! I know which one I’d rather interview….! :P

Seriously though, just like Phillipe and Adam Pacitti (you know, the graduate who spent his last £500 on a billboard begging for someone to employ him), it’s worth taking a risk and coming up with something a little bit different when applying for jobs if you’re serious about getting ahead of the competition – and hey, if you manage to catch the attention of the world’s media in the process, well that’s just a bonus, right?! ;)
